In a shocking incident, a 61-year-old butcher in Hong Kong was killed while trying to butcher a pig, city police said, according to CNN. The incident took place on Friday around 1 pm (local time). The butcher worked at the Sheung Shui slaughterhouse on the city's northern outskirts, close to its border with mainland China. According to police, the man was pinned to the ground by a struggling pig and fatally wounded by a 15-inch meat cleaver. Police told the outlet that Butcher was about to kill the pig — which he had already shot with an electric gun — when he regained consciousness and dropped it.
Another worker at the slaughterhouse found the butcher unconscious with a cleaver in his hand and a wound on his left leg. He was taken to the hospital after the incident, however, he was later declared brought dead. Police officials said that the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
Hong Kong's Labor Department has launched an investigation into the shocking incident. "The Department of Labor is saddened by the individual's death and extends its deepest sympathies to his family," the Labor Department said in a statement. Separately, according to CNN, a department spokesperson said, "We will complete the investigation as quickly as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of duty holders and recommend corrective measures."
