Introduction
Domestic flight was scheduled from Tokyo to Osaka International Airport on August 12, 1985. It was Boeing 747 aircraft. There were 524 people on board out of which 15 were crew members. Luckily 4 out of 524 survived this air crash.
Faulty repair by Boeing technicians was the cause of this crash as at the time of crash rapid decompression occurred. Earlier with the same aircraft tailstrike incident happened during landing on June 2, 1978
Description
The air crash took place at Mount Takamagahara, Ueno, Gunma Prefecture. This site is approximately 100 kms from the Tokyo, Japan. After this accident the people of japan started avoiding the Japan Airlines resulting in the drop in the number of passengers for domestic travel. The domestic flights were decreased by almost 24-25% after this accident.
In this crash no only 520 people were killed, some the of Japan Airline Officials also committed suicide. Japan Airlines Maintenance manager Hirro Tominaga killed himself for this incident. The engineer to cleared this flight after inspection also committed suicide.
All other Boeing 747 served Japan Airlines till 2011 as they got retired in this year.
