Description
Wynn Resorts has announced that it will build the first gaming complex in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is expected to be completed by early 2027. The Las Vegas-based casino operator is one of the largest in the world, with resorts in Boston and Macau as well. The gaming complex, located in Ras Al-Khaimah, will cost around $3.9 billion and is expected to have 1,500 rooms, 24 dining and bar spaces, spa services, and high-end retail. The company avoided using the term gaming as it goes against Islamic beliefs, but promised exceptional gaming and entertainment equipment. Wynn Resorts CEO Craig Billings said: “We spent the last year meticulously planning and designing the island of Wynn Al Marjan, carefully considering its unique location. Construction work for the resort has already started on the island of Wynn Al Marjan, located off the coast of Ras Al-Khaimah. The company had previously planned to open the station in 2026, but the opening date was pushed back to early 2027.
The UAE's move into gaming and esports comes as neighboring Saudi Arabia invests around $38 billion to become a gaming hub. The country has acquired major esports venues, ESL and FaceIt, and has hosted several major esports tournaments to nurture local talent.
With this development, the United Arab Emirates aims to keep pace with its neighbors in the growing gaming industry. The gaming station will be an important addition to the country's tourism and entertainment sector and is expected to attract a large number of tourists from all over the world.
