Twitter CEO Elon Musk said on Friday that he personally pays for the blue Twitter subscriptions of some celebrities who refused to pay for the subscriptions. "I pay some personally," Musk said in a reply to @TitterDaily. Musk also took the names of celebrities in one of his tweets, saying, "Just Shatner, LeBron and King."

The news that Elon Musk personally paid for some celebrities broke after Stephen King (who is an American novelist) took to the social media platform and mentioned how his Twitter account said that he "subscribed to Twitter Blue" even when it did not.

To this, Musk replied, "You're welcome, Namaste," which clarified that Musk had provided him with Twitter Blue subscriptions even though he hadn't paid for them himself.

Twitter launched its blue tick system in 2009 to distinguish the authenticity of notable accounts. Back then, until that time, government officials and other dignitaries, including celebrities, didn't have to pay for it. However, the microblogging site had said on Thursday that it now restricted "verified legacy ticks" to only those who had paid for them.

After this many notable people including Indian celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and government officials and politicians like Yogi Adityanath and Rahul Gandhi lost their verified status.
