Ironmaces Dark and Darker Face Hurdles During Weekend Playtest

43 - 20-Apr-2023
Description

Ironmace passed Steam's Dark and Darker playtest due to an ongoing legal dispute with Nexon. In the meantime, to continue the testing process, Ironmace asked players to download the latest test build, which led to several logistical issues over the weekend. Its CEO along with the developers issued a statement apologizing for the bugs, lags, poor optimization, instability, and obstacles that players had to endure during the test. "We want to apologize for all the bugs, instability, and obstacles you had to endure during playtesting. The quality did not meet our standards, and we will focus on making the game better for our fans at home." Unfortunately, there will be no expansion of this playtest and it will end on April 20, 2023. As always, we will share the test data shortly," Ironmace's statement read. He further added: “As far as the company is concerned, we will do our best to bring the game to our fans as soon as possible and we will inform them as much as possible. Thanks again for your amazing support and see you in the dungeons!

Despite the many challenges, Ironmace introduced a new map called The Ruins, which features a different exterior setting than previous dungeon maps.

However, in his rush to show off the new map, Ironmace admitted to releasing it before it was fully optimized. "In our rush to show the map of the ruins, we moved too fast and pushed it before it was fully ready," Ironmace said Saturday. The developers of Dark and Darker have made changes to the loot mechanics and lighting settings of the new Ruin maps in patches. The second patch fixed bugs with class abilities.

Ironmace acknowledged that the quality of the playtests fell short of their standards and was committed to making the game better for their fans.

“The quality did not meet our standards and we will focus on improving the game for our fans in the future,” the weekend announcement added.

The Dark and Darker's Ruin map had several issues, including the removal of some portals from the server and the map being converted to a single layer. Although many players on Steam said they liked outdoor settings, which gave them a horizon for a more open game.

Despite the growing popularity, Dark and Darker has to withdraw its game for legal drama. Some fans took to Reddit to express their disappointment that D&D was about to leave the Steam market, saying, "Today may be the last time we play D&D."

Another Reddit user, KledfromNoxus, wanted to cherish the moments he had with Dark and Darker.

Ironmace hasn't announced an upcoming test date, but they promised to be back with more.
