Description

Arkane Studios' upcoming vampire-themed shooter Redfall won't have the performance and display options most gamers expect from modern console games upon release. The game will not include a 60 FPS option for Xbox Series X/S consoles, which might disappoint some gamers who prefer more fluid movement for first-person shooters. The official Redfall Twitter account announced that the game would only come with a "Quality" graphics mode at launch. Players will only be able to run the game at 2160p (4K) resolution at 30 frames per second (FPS) on Xbox Series X consoles. On the Xbox Series S console, the game will run at 1440p resolution at 30 FPS. Typically, most modern console blockbusters offer another option called "Performance" mode that prioritizes a higher frame rate while resigning yourself to a lower image resolution. It's still unclear why Redfall doesn't offer this option at launch. However, Arkane Studios has assured fans that a 60 FPS mode will be added to the game at a later date, though no specific date has been given yet.

It's important to note that the PC version of Redfall will have no such restrictions, as graphics options are generally more granular on PC games, allowing for a broader spectrum of performance. The game is expected to be exclusive to the Xbox console, and will not be available on PS5 consoles after Microsoft acquires Bethesda in 2021, although a PS5 version was reportedly in development prior to the acquisition.

Despite the restrictions, Redfall looks like a promising title so far. According to GamesHub's Redfall preview, the press demo "hints at a wild, terror-filled adventure filled with anti-tropical encounters and creative scenarios that blend Arkane's traditional first-person gameplay style with darker, more fantasy-filled stories." . Redfall is scheduled for release on May 2, 2023 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
