On April 7th, Resident Evil 4 released its fan-favorite DLC and teaser for The Mercenaries. This DLC serves up the nostalgia of Resident Evil fans where players face off against hordes of the infected in Time Challenges. The Mercenaries DLC also includes a less welcoming feature: microtransactions. Players can now purchase an "Upgrade Ticket" which will provide exclusive weapon upgrades regardless of current weapon tier. This "upgrade ticket" is basically paid for, and fans express a mixed reaction. You can also trade 30 Spinel Gems with the merchant for the first ticket and 40 Spinel Gems for the second. The Resident Evil Steam description reads: "Not only that, but once unlocked, the update itself is free!" Capcom serious?
There is also an exclusive update present in RE4. You can now upgrade the only final version of a weapon. As the exclusive upgrade to the Brain-splatter Striker shotgun will double its ammo capacity and the combat knife gets a 1.5x attack speed boost. The suggestion is to unlock them by completing all the weapon upgrades and then buying the latest one.
RE4 offers these Merchant Upgrade tickets in packages of one, three, and five that will cost $3, $7, and $10, respectively. There are multiple sets of one and three, so you can buy tickets for almost every weapon.
Steam's description also lists "available on all your save data," which means the update isn't limited to DLC.
As a new player, you can start your Resident Evil 4 journey by purchasing a $70 Deluxe Edition, which will include a Sentinel Nine pistol and Skull Shaker shotgun and cosmetics for Leon. The pistol and the knife will be useful in the crowded places of the town.
Although RE4 is a single player title and there is nothing wrong with investing money to enjoy it, people are still angry with Capcom for making this scope unnecessary for additional profit.
However, the good news is that you don't have to buy it. You can enjoy the game in your spare time.
