Description

The PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 finally released on PC this week. This is welcome news for anyone who hasn't played the game in its last three releases on PlayStaion, but the hard truth is that, at launch at least, the game is in bad shape. As of this writing, the post-apocalyptic game is suffering from a host of performance issues, stuttering, bugs, and crashes. Repeated screen freezes plague the player experience even after paying a heavy price for the action-adventure title. As of this writing, the game has over 5,000 negative reviews on Steam, a number that shows the state of the game. Players express their anger and frustration with the state of the game since its release. The main complaint refers to the port company PC. Iron Galaxy, known for the cheeky franchise ports Batman: Arkhan Knight and Uncharted. Steam reviews are inundated with numerous criticisms such as rampant crashes, long load times, and poor optimization issues. Some common problems like:

1. Screen freezes: The game freezes all the time by itself, sometimes taking Steam or the entire system with it.

2. Crashes – Horror adventure title constantly crashes for many users

3. Poor optimization: Many gamers complain that the game consumes too much CPU than GPU, and that is why the performance is far from what Naughty Dog promises. Even on a high-end system, it's not as smooth as it should be compared to your system.

4. Mouse and keyboard stutter: Apparently using the mouse and keyboard at the same time causes stutter, but using a gamepad eliminates this problem. This was also a problem with the ports of Uncharted.

As of now, there is no official patch or update for The Last of US Part 1 port issues. Some of the issues can be resolved with a generic troubleshooter. For now, the player can try the following to fix the issue:

1. GPU Driver Update: Players can check for new GPU driver updates for their respective system. The crashing issue in The Last of Us Part 1 can be reduced or even fixed by simply updating to the latest GPU driver. The available AMD, Nvidia and Intel GPU driver app will notify users about the latest driver update and the game they are targeting with this solution.

2. Verify Game Integrity Files – Checking game integrity files on Steam can fix issues like rampant crashes. This simple method can help find and repair missing or corrupted files.

The process to verify a file on Steam is as follows:

∙ Launch Steam, go to your library and right click on the desired game.

∙ Click Properties and choose the local file option in the new window.

∙ Then you will find the Verify game file integrity option, click on it and wait for the process to complete.

3. Uninstall and reinstall the game: Finally, The Last of Us PC user can try to uninstall the title and then reinstall it. This may repair missing or damaged files. A fresh install is always an option for many players.

Apparently Naughty Dog fixed these issues and promised the user that the issue would be fixed in the next few patches. Still, it's starting to become a disappointing trend that most of Sony's big ports suffer from performance issues on PC.
