Mark Zuckerberg's WhatsApp on Thursday introduced a new Windows client with improved performance, better calling features and an interface identical to the mobile version. Desktop users can now set up group video calls with up to eight people and audio calls with up to 32 people in the new version. "Today we are introducing a new WhatsApp app for Windows that loads faster and is built with an interface similar to the mobile version of the app," read a statement from social media parent Meta. Announcing the launch, Mark Zuckerberg wrote on his Instagram channel that with the new WhatsApp desktop app for Windows, users can make end-to-end encrypted group video calls with up to eight people and audio calls with up to 32 people, which which extends the limit to that of the mobile application. Meta also said that it would further increase these limits.
According to Meta, the WhatsApp update will include new features such as link and sticker previews, as well as faster device pairing and improved cross-device syncing.
WhatsApp has been focused on improving the experience on large screens ever since it announced the ability to use one account on multiple devices.
The launch comes in the context of the recently introduced beta version of WhatsApp for Android tablets and for Mac desktop computers.
“We hope to bring WhatsApp to more devices in the future,” the statement added.
