What is Virtual Volunteering?

(1.) According to Be My Eyes, the Virtual Volunteer powered by GPT-4 uses the dynamic image-to-text feature of the language model. When an image is submitted, it will use the builder feature to answer any questions related to that image, and will also provide instant virtual assistance for a number of tasks.

(2.) Giving an example of the digital assistant's capabilities, the statement also claimed that if a submitted image is of the inside of a refrigerator, it will not only correctly identify all the ingredients inside the refrigerator, but also indicate what can be done with those ingredients.

(3.) The experience of sighted volunteers, however, leads nowhere. Therefore, if the tool, which will be free, cannot answer a question, it will automatically suggest that users contact a sighted person.

(4.) In terms of availability, Be My Eyes is currently beta testing the service with a small subset of users. Over the next few weeks, this pool of testers will be expanded, followed by a wide release of Virtual Volunteer in the coming months.

(5.) The company further stated that it welcomes feedback to refine this new tool. The priority, he said, is (user) safety.
