Bank scams using malicious web links have become a go-to tool for scammers as more and more people use digital financial services. Receiving text messages inviting you to visit a fake banking site has become the norm. Although we recommend against clicking these links and reporting it to the authorities, a Reddit user who received a similar message decided to teach the scammer a lesson. The screenshot of the mind-blowing chat posted on the social media platform makes us say – “the scammer got scammed”. The user said that he received a phishing SMS link from an HDFC bank impostor. "Dear customer, your HDFC account is deactivated, please click the link to update your PAN number. "Click the link" reads the text message you received on your phone. However, unlike those who ignore the text After spotting the scam, this software engineer decided to trick the scammer instead.

He replied, "Okay, Bhaiya," to which he was again prompted to click the link. Techie then told the scammer that the site was easy to spot as fake and offered to help create a more realistic duplicate website. "Easy to find, this is a scam website, I'm a software engineer, I can help you redesign the page." He added: "For 20,000, I'll help you redesign exactly like HDFC's online banking site."

This caught the attention of the scammer and he asked for examples of work on WhatsApp. Techie was in no mood to let the game stop. He managed to get fabricated screenshots showing a similar website. "I sent him a video of another fake HDFC site saying it was my site. He tried to call me twice and I rejected him with a text, I'll call him tomorrow," he shared on the social media platform.

It was enough to catch the scammer in the net. He offered to discuss the deal. However, this time the technician ignored it, citing another commitment.

In a subsequent update on Reddit, the user said that the scammer had disabled the WhatsApp number and website.

Netizens all praised the software engineer's witty response. One user wrote, "my boy didn't let any missed opportunity go by," while another said, "don't mess with the software engineer."
