It seems that even robots are not immune to widespread layoffs by tech giants.

According to a Wired report, Google is pulling the plug on Everyday Robots, a company that has developed and trained more than 100 robots to perform tasks like sorting through trash, opening doors, replacing missing chairs, and clearing tables. The subsidiary was under the "moonshot project" X of Google's parent company, Alphabet. Citing a spokesperson, the report added that while Everyday Robots will cease to exist as a separate team, some of the employees and technology will remain part of Google's other robots. Projects

According to the X website, the automata were developed as a "general purpose" robot that relied on cameras and machine learning to perform tasks in an "everyday human environment." The technology also incorporated language models similar to those used by ChatGPT so that it could respond to requests for snacks and other daily requests from employees.
