Description
Facebook and Instagram began a weeklong launch of their first paid verification service on Friday, testing users' willingness to pay for previously free social networking features.
Faced with declining ad revenue, parent company Meta is testing the subscription in Australia and New Zealand before appearing in larger markets. The service will cost $11.99 on the web and $14.99 on the iOS and Android mobile platforms. Starting Friday, subscribers Down Under who provide government-issued IDs can start requesting a verified badge, which provides protection against identity theft, direct access to customer support and more visibility, according to the company.
