Description
A first-generation iPhone, sealed in its original 2007 box, sold for $63,356 (about Rs 52,000,000) on Sunday at a major US auction house. This is the highest price ever paid for a original iphone.
Listed for $52,797, the record sale at LCG Auctions included a 20% buyer's fee, bringing the total to more than $60,000. According to a Business Insider report, the expensive iPhone was gifted to New Jersey cosmetic tattoo artist Karen Green after she landed a new job. It remained unpackaged because Karen was tied to a Verizon (an American multinational telecommunications) phone line while the original iPhone was only compatible with AT&T. Although Green had considered selling the iPhone for the past few years because he needed the money for his study, he decided to keep it after learning that another 2007 first-generation iPhone was selling for nearly $40,000. He contacted LCG Auctions in October and the phone went up for auction from February 2-19. Expected to sell for at least $50,000, the offer started at $2,500, but ended up costing more than 100 times its original price. Prize.
