Description
At Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru, an Indian Army medic demonstrated an external fixator developed to treat hand fractures, which is currently being deployed in earthquake-hit Turkey and Syria as part of the Dost emergency relief operation. The ANI news agency quoted Colonel Vijay Pandey as saying that the technology heals patients faster than other repairmen.
Weighing just 5 grams, this external fixator achieves 90% mobility in just one month, compared to six months for other fixators. Developed especially for the treatment of intercondylar fractures, usually caused by a strong impact to the hand or elbow, it costs around ₹300. The device can be easily placed by a general surgeon. Colonel Pandey said the new fixative has already been used in the treatment of at least 100 patients.
