Description
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday that India will see its first locally designed and manufactured hydrogen train by December 2023 at the historic Kalka-Shimla circuit. Although hydrogen train technology is still in its infancy and only a few countries are using it in a limited way, India's early adoption is seen as an important step towards green initiatives.
The next hydrogen trains will be known as Vande Metro. It will initially run on historic narrow-gauge routes including the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Matheran Hill Railway, Kangra Valley, Bilmora Waghai and Marwar-Devgarh Madriya, making travel greener.
