As many as 36.77 lakhs of WhatsApp accounts were banned in India in December last year, the number being slightly lower than the number that took action (37.16 lakhs) in the previous month.
“Between December 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022, no less than 36,77,000 accounts were banned. 13,89,000 of them were proactively banned, before users reported it,” WhatsApp said. He also said that in December he received 1,607 calls from users, an increase of 70% from the 946 complaints he received the previous month. Of those 1,607 complaints, 1,459 (91%) requested the blocking of accounts, it added.
