Description
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that domestic patent applications have surpassed the country's foreign patent applications and expressed confidence that India's dream of "techade" will come true through the strength of its innovators. This underscores the country's growing scientific capabilities, he said in the first episode of "Mann ki Baat" of the new year. Modi has used "techade" in the past to describe the decade dominated by technology and India making the most of it.
He said India's ranking in patent filing is seventh in the world, while it is fifth in trademark registration. India's patent filing has increased by 50% in the past five years, the prime minister said, noting that its ranking in the Global Innovation Index rose from below 80 to 40 in 2015.
"I am sure that India's technological dream will come true thanks to its innovators and its patents," he said.
India's top science institute held 145 patents in 2022, which is a rare record, Modi said.
In his speech, Modi noted that this year's Padma Awards include various tribal people or people who work for the community, as well as those who have empowered the world of music.
He urged people to read about the winners, saying their stories would inspire new generations.
