Sanjay Raut previously claimed that E Shinde's government would collapse in February. (File photo) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed on Sunday that the "death knell" of the Maharashtra government led by Eknath Shinde had been issued and it would collapse in the next 15 to 20 days. Speaking to reporters, Ms Raut, a key leader of former CM Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), said her party was waiting for the court order and waiting for justice to be done.

The Rajya Sabha member was referring to the pending Supreme Court ruling on a number of grounds, including one calling for the disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena (Shinde's party) MPs who rioted against Thackeray's leadership.

“The government of the current prime minister and his 40 deputies will collapse in 15 to 20 days. The death sentence of this government has been issued. Now it remains to be decided who will sign it,” Raut said.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader had previously claimed that E Shinde's government would collapse in February.

In June last year, Shinde and 39 MPs revolted against the Seine leadership, leading to a split in the party and the collapse of the Thackeray-led government of Maha Vikas Aghadi (which also includes the NCP and Congress).

E Shinde then joined forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government of Maharashtra.

On June 30, 2022, Shinde was sworn in as CM with BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as deputy.

Last month, the Supreme Court reserved its verdict on a batch of cross-applications by the Uddhav Thackeray and CM Eknath Shinde factions regarding last year's political crisis in the state.
