Karnataka will go to the Assembly polls on May 10 (File) Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said on Sunday that the big party had reached out to the Communist Party of India, adding that all its cadres would support the party without preconditions. This comes after the Communist Party of India announced its support for the Congress in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. “We contacted the CPI. They presented 7 candidates and were going to present others. They agreed that there would be friendly competition in the 7 seats, but in the remaining 215 seats, the CPI is going wholeheartedly, without any preconditions or expectations, to support the Congress candidates in this fight against the BJP,” Surjewala told a conference. press here.

The Congress leader further criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the arrival of state police in Karnataka following a case filed over the complaint filed by the former president of Assam Youth Congress against the president of IYC, Srinivas BV.

"The Assam renegade CM who is trying to outdo Amit Shah in his post has now become infamous for keeping these antics in the news... We completely reject this propaganda. Sometimes he wants to arrest Pawan Khera, sometimes he wants to arrest to BV Srinivas. Maybe it's to save the ignominy that Mr. Modi was trying to arrest him once for Saradha Scam and Louis Berger Scam. That's why he defected to BJP. Reject him, pay no attention to him," he said.

Notably, the Assam Police had registered a case against Srinivas BV on Saturday.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that Srinivas BV had "harassed" and "discriminated against" her for the past 6 months.

According to the Assam Police, a case was registered at the Dispur Police Station under Sections 509 294 341 352 354 354A(iv) and 506 IPC RW Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

A police team from Assam left for Karnataka on Saturday to investigate the case and is expected to arrest Srinivas BV in connection with the case. A senior Assam police officer told ANI over the phone that a 4-5 member police team had left for Karnataka.
