4 dead after ground collapses during excavation work in Chhattisgarh

(Representative) Four people, including three women, were killed on Wednesday when earth collapsed while they were digging in the Koriya district of Chhattisgarh, an official said. The incident occurred late Thursday night near the village of Banjaridand, located in a forest area while the victims were digging white clay, Koriya collector Vinay Kumar Langeh told PTI.

The dead were identified as Puja Gond and Ramsundar, residents of Potedand village, and Manmati and Meera Bai from Gadtar village, it said.

According to preliminary information, when they were excavating the land, part of the earth collapsed, so they were trapped under the rubble and died on the spot, he said.

Shortly after being alerted, a police team went to the crash site and recovered the bodies, the collector said.

The bodies have been sent for an autopsy and further investigation is underway, he added.
