India recorded 11,109 new covid cases today, bringing active infections to 49,622. The daily number of covid cases is the highest in 236 days, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The death toll rose to 5,31,064 with 29 deaths. While three deaths each were reported in Delhi and Rajasthan, two were from Chhattisgarh and Punjab and one from Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Odisha, Pondicherry, from Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, in addition to nine reconciled by Kerala. , said the updated data at 8 am Amid a gradual increase in the number of Covid cases, medical experts have said that the new XBB.1.16 variant of the virus may be behind the outbreak.
