Description
Both Asad and Ghulam had a bounty of Rs 5 lakhs on their heads. Police attempted to take alive accused murderers Asad Ahmed and Ghulam, shot dead in Jhansi by Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday, they said in the first information report (FIR) filed shortly after the encounter. “When we asked our driver to pass the motorcycles on which the two defendants were trying to flee and we loudly asked them to stop, they sped up and tried to go around a dirt road to escape, although another team had already surrounded them. ”. the report said, adding that the defendant was repeatedly warned to no avail when the motorcycles slipped and fell near a babool tree.
“Asad and Ghulam took cover, started insulting the police and shot with the intent to kill,” he added.
Police said they stopped their vehicle, took cover and entered their range in an attempt to capture the two alive "without regard to their safety."
They had to return fire when the defendant started firing indiscriminately, police said, adding that the firing from the other side stopped after a while when they approached and found Asad and Ghulam wounded.
"They were still showing signs of life, so we immediately sent them to hospital in two separate ambulances, but later found out they were dead," FIR said.
Guns, cartridges, live ammunition, motorcycles and other evidence were collected at the scene, he added.
On April 13, an informant, who was part of Atiq Ahmed's gang, informed the police that Asad and Ghulam were also in Jhansi, after which they began to lay a net.
Asad and Ghulam were seen approaching on two unnumbered Bajaja Discovery motorbikes from the town of Chirgaon in Jhansi, after which police chased them for 1.5 km.
Asad's body will be received by his maternal family and taken to a family cemetery at Kasari Masari in Prayagraj for burial in the late afternoon or early evening.
Asad was the son of fearsome mobster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. Atiq and his brother Ashraf were brought before the CJM court in Prayagraj the same morning their son was shot dead.
On March 28, Atiq Ahmed was found guilty by an MP-MLA court and sentenced to life in prison in the kidnapping case of the now-deceased Umesh Pal. Atiq Ahmed and his family came under the scanner as CCTV footage showed Mr. Pal being killed by indiscriminate gunfire and a bomb blast. Asad, 19, was seen chasing Umesh Pal with a gun drawn.
Asad, who has no criminal record, was not named in the FIR filed immediately after Umesh Pal's murder. His name came to light during the investigation, according to police.
Atiq Ahmed, who has more than 100 cases against him in the last 43 years, was convicted in the same case.
Umesh Pal, the key witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his police security guards Raghavendra Singh and Sandeep Nishad, were shot dead outside their home in Prayagraj's Dhoomanganj on 24 February.
With Thursday's meeting, four people linked to the murder of Umesh Pal have so far been shot dead. Police are still searching for Guddu Muslim, who allegedly threw a bomb during the shooting, and another suspected shooter, Sabir. Shayista, Atiq Ahmed's wife, is also on the run.
FIR said that Guddu Muslim also traveled to Jhansi immediately after the murder of Umesh Pal and stayed at the house of one Satish Pandey.
According to police sources, Asad Ahmed had fled to Lucknow after the murder of Umesh Pal. He then moved to Kanpur and then Meerut before reaching Delhi, we found out. He then decides to flee to Madhya Pradesh. He reached Jhansi and was heading towards the state border on his bicycle when he was stopped by the police. Asad would have been in disguise.
Both Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi party and Mayawati's BSP raised doubts about the meeting and demanded an impartial investigation. Atiq Ahmed also repeatedly claimed that he feared he would be killed in a failed encounter; He recently told the media that he was still alive just because of the media attention.
