Description

Rishi Sunak is a British citizen, his wife Akshata Murty is an Indian citizen. Akshata Murty, the wife of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, is set to earn Rs 68.17 crore in dividends from her stake in India's second-biggest IT company, Infosys. Ms Murty, the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, owned Rs 3.89 crore in Infosys shares at the end of December, according to filings by the company on stock exchanges.

Infosys has declared a final dividend of Rs 17.50 per share for fiscal year 23 (April 2022 to March 2023). If you keep your stake until the registration date, June 2, you will get Rs 68.17 crore.

With an interim dividend of Rs 16.50 per share declared in October last year, he would get Rs 132.4 crore.

For the previous financial year, Infosys paid a total of Rs 31 per dividend share, giving it a total of Rs 120.76 crore. His stake is worth just over Rs 5,400 crore at Thursday's closing price of Rs 1,388.60 per share in BSE.

Infosys is one of the best dividend paying companies in India.

Sunak, 42, became Britain's first Indian-born prime minister and the youngest leader in modern times in October last year.

While Sunak is a British citizen, his wife Akshata is an Indian citizen. His non-resident status, which allows him to earn money abroad without paying tax in Britain for up to 15 years, has been a matter of division in the UK.

Akshata's non-resident status became a topic of discussion in Britain when Sunak first entered the race to become prime minister in April last year.

At the time, her spokesperson said that as an Indian citizen, she could not hold citizenship of any other country and that she "has paid and will continue to pay UK tax on all her UK income."

As the controversy escalated, Akshata announced that he would pay UK tax on all his worldwide income out of a "British sense of justice".

It is not clear how much UK tax he paid on the dividend income due to him.

Born in Hubballi, the hometown of her mother, Sudha Murty, in North Karnataka, Akshata was educated in Bangalore before moving to Claremont McKenna College in California, where she majored in economics and French.

He earned a bachelor's degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, which followed a brief stint at Deloitte and Unilever. He then pursued his MBA at Stanford, where he met Rishi Sunak.

The two got married in 2009. The couple, who own extensive property portfolios, have two children, Krishna and Anoushka.

They live in a £7 million terraced house in Kensington. They also own an apartment in Kensington, a mansion in the Rishi constituency of Yorkshire, and a penthouse in California.

The son of a pharmacist mother and a doctor father, Sunak was educated at one of the most renowned schools in England, Winchester, then Oxford. He spent three years at Goldman Sachs Group Inc and then earned an MBA from Stanford in California, where he met his wife Akshata Murty.

According to Infosys documents, the developers own 13.11% of the company. The Murthy family owns 3.6% (Narayana Murthy owns 0.40% of the capital, his wife Sudha 0.82%, son Rohan 1.45% and daughter Akshata 0.93%).

Other promoters include co-founder S Gopalakrishnan, Nandan M Nilekani and SD Shibulal and their families.
