(Representative) Two Meghalaya church workers were allegedly assaulted by unbelievers in Patna, Bihar, police said on Tuesday. The duo were arrested by a group of people in the Bihar capital and "roughed up", they said.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma condemned the incident and ordered the state police to contact their counterparts in Bihar.
"Condemn the incident in Bihar where disbelievers abused our Presbyterian Church elders. He ordered Meg police to contact Bihar police who are helping our elders, their statements are taken to file an FIR against these scoundrels (sic)" Mr. Conrad tweeted.
Meanwhile, Patna SSP Rajeev Mishra said that the police immediately rushed to the scene and asked the church workers to identify the disbelievers.
"An incident was reported in the city's Alamgang district where people, originally from Meghalaya and belonging to a particular community, were allegedly abused by disbelievers... However, they expressed their willingness to go to their place of origin without register the FIR", SSP Mishra told PTI.
They left for Meghalaya and will enjoy security until the last point of their journey, the SSP said.
