Party leader Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, said his party will contest the Goan elections. A senior leader of Maharashtra Prime Minister Eknath Shinde, led by Shiv Sena, said on Tuesday that his party will contest elections in Goa and will soon launch an awareness campaign in the BJP-led coastal state. Speaking to reporters here, Shiv Sena leader Anandrao Adsul said the party, which rules Maharashtra in alliance with the BJP, must work at the local level to win elections in Goa.
The former Lok Sabha MP said the undivided Shiv Sena had participated in elections in Goa in the past, but they were held half-heartedly.
"The Shiv Sena will contest the upcoming elections in Goa with conviction and make a fresh start. The people of Goa need to be convinced that this party is here to work for them. We need to create an impact in the minds of the people," he said Mr Adul. has said.
He said many local leaders had expressed interest in joining the Shinde-led party, which was given the name Shiv Sena and the "bow and arrow" polling symbol by the election commission in February.
Adsul alleged that Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut and others who had been appointed party affairs officers in Goa in the past were influenced by monetary considerations in giving ballots to state candidates.
Raut did not respond to messages seeking comment on Adsul's claim until late Tuesday.
