Description
A Dalit woman was allegedly raped and burned in the Barmer district of Rajasthan, police said on Friday. The victim, who suffered 40% burns, is being treated at a government hospital in Jodhpur, they said. Pachpadra SHO Rajendra Singh Police Station said the alleged incident occurred on Thursday.
The defendant, identified as Shakoor, allegedly raped the woman and then poured chemicals on her before setting her on fire.
Shakoor, who lives near the victim's home, was arrested, Singh said.
One case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police added.
