(File) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday reviewed the education system at MCD schools, saying it will be modernized along the lines of Delhi public schools over the next five years. Chairing a high-level meeting with Education Minister Atishi and MCD officials, Mr Kejriwal stressed the need for a major overhaul of the infrastructure of schools run by the Delhi Municipality.
During the meeting, Mr. Kejriwal said that even the best MCD schools were not up to the standards of Delhi public schools. It identified several areas that need attention, including sanitation, toilets, overworked teachers and a lack of sufficient numbers of non-teaching staff, the government said in a statement.
"The Chief Minister stressed that MCD schools should be transformed following the model of public schools in Delhi. The Kejriwal education model which has transformed public schools in Delhi will be implemented very soon in MCD schools," the statement added.
The Chief Minister expressed his confidence in the talent of the children and said that if MCD supports them properly, they will surpass the entire nation. It also stressed the need to motivate teachers and principals and send them for proper training like the Delhi government teachers, the officials said.
"The Chief Minister has set himself the goal of transforming the infrastructure of all MCD schools within five years. The government also plans to identify vacant land in MCD schools for the construction of new secondary schools," the press release added. .
Mr. Kejriwal directed MCD officials to deploy property managers, IT assistants, and security guards at all schools.
Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi, MCD Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohd Iqbal and MCD House Leader Mukesh Goyal also attended the review meeting.
