KC Venugopal has denounced the illegal cloning of his cell phone number by hackers. (File photo) AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal's office filed a complaint with Kerala Police Chief Anil Kant alleging illegal cloning of his mobile phone number by hackers and fraudulent calls for information. In a tweet posted on Wednesday with the copy of the complaint filed with the State Police Chief, Venugopal said: "Since yesterday, hackers have been using caller ID spoofing and impersonating my phone number and making unsolicited calls. Everyone is alerted to report any suspicious calls and avoid responding to these hackers." “My office has filed a complaint with @TheKeralaPolice and I expect immediate action,” he said.
The complaint filed by Mr. Venugopal's secretary, K Sarat Chandran, concerned cases where two people allegedly received such illegal phone calls.
He claimed that the strangers further illegally/fraudulently called certain people from cloned SIM cards posing as Mr. Venugopal or a member of his staff “for ulterior motives and with the aim of sabotaging successful candidates and/or misleading people to take their money. “It is absolutely necessary that appropriate legal action, including criminal investigation in accordance with applicable laws, be taken without delay against such strangers so that they cannot cause any harm,” the whistleblower added.
