A two-member team from the Delhi Police Special Cell landed with Deepak at Terminal 3 of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport from Mexico via Istanbul at around 6am this morning. He will be questioned about his criminal activities and his alleged involvement in the killing of a builder in the Civil Lines area of north Delhi, police said.

The mobster, a winner of a national boxing championship, was trying to enter the United States illegally through Mexico and planned to run his organized crime ring in Delhi and neighboring states from there before being arrested, a senior official said. police officer.

Special Police (Special Cell) Commissioner HGS Dhaliwal said the mobster took several routes and stopped on his way to Mexico en route to the United States ("donkey" method).

But he landed in their tight web with the help of the Office of the Legal Attache at the US Embassy in New Delhi.

It was the first time that the Delhi police had arrested a gangster in an operation outside the country.

Police had announced a Rs 3 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of Gogi gang leader Deepak, who is believed to be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

"We received reports in January that Deepak made a fake passport in the name of Ravi Antil de Bareilly to flee the country. He flew from Kolkata to Dubai. After Dubai he went to Almaty in Kazakhstan and arrived in Turkey. He then headed towards Spain. After taking several routes, it finally arrived in Mexico," Dhaliwal said.

“Our teams were constantly following their routes,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.

He said Delhi police zeroed in on the gangster's location in Cancun, a city known for human traffickers and narcotics mafia, after questioning several of his aides and using technical information.

“His intention upon arriving in Mexico was to reach the United States, with the help of human traffickers, where he would join his other associates. From there, he planned to run his organized crime group in Delhi and neighboring states," Dhaliwal added.

His arrest is the result of the coordinated efforts of the criminal branch and the special cell, police said.

The mobster is wanted in India in 10 sensational cases, including murder and extortion, in the past five years, they said.

Deepak, a resident of Gannaur in Haryana's Sonipat district, led the Gogi gang after its leader Jitendra Mann, also known as Gogi, was killed inside the Rohini court compound by two men in September 2021.
