Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-turned-politician and defendant in the case, was transferred from Sabarmati prison in Gujarat to Naini prison in Prayagraj on Monday after traveling for more than 24 hours from Gujarat.

He will appear in court today in connection with the kidnapping case of Umesh Pal. Security has been tightened at the court.

Security outside Naini prison has been tightened and a large deployment of uniformed personnel has been observed outside the prison premises.

A team of 45 Uttar Pradesh police officers took Atiq Ahmed from Sabarmati prison in Ahmedabad, where he was being held on Sunday.

Leaving Sabarmati prison, Ahmed told journalists waiting outside that a plot was being hatched to kill him under the pretext of following court orders.

"Court Ke Kandhe Par Rakhkar Hume Maarna Chah Rahe Hai (They are using court orders as a pretext to kill me)," Atiq Ahmed said as a 45-member Uttar Pradesh police team escorted him into a police van. .

Ahmed is the main defendant in the Umesh Pal murder case. Umesh Pal, the main witness to the 2005 assassination of BSP MP Raju Pal, and his two security staff were shot dead in Prayagraj on February 24 this year.

Earlier, Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma said on Sunday that Atiq was due to appear in court on March 28 in a kidnapping case, with a verdict expected the same day.

"The Court has set March 28 as the date for the delivery of the verdict in an old kidnapping case... All the defendants must appear before the Court in this case. To present Mafia Atiq Ahmed before the Court, a defendant in In this case, a police team was sent to the Sabarmati prison,” the commissioner said.
