India reports nearly 1,890 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, highest in nearly 5 months

India recorded 1,890 new coronavirus cases, the highest in 149 days, while active cases rose to 9,433, according to data updated on Sunday from the Union Health Ministry. The country had registered 2,208 cases in a single day on October 28 last year. The death toll rose to 5,30,831 with seven deaths. While Maharashtra and Gujarat each reported two deaths in the span of 24 hours, Kerala reconciled three, according to data updated as of 8 a.m.

Daily positivity was recorded at 1.56%, while weekly positivity was set at 1.29%.

The number of Covid cases was recorded at Rs 4.47 crore (4,47,04,147). Active cases now account for 0.02% of total infections, while the national recovery rate from COVID-19 has been recorded at 98.79%, the ministry said.

The number of people who recovered from the disease amounted to 4,41,63,883, while the fatality rate was recorded at 1.19%.

According to the ministry's website, 220.65 crores of doses of the Covid vaccine have so far been administered in the country as part of the national vaccination campaign.
