She shared the news of her diagnosis on her Twitter account, writing, "He (Navjot Singh Sidhu) is in jail for a crime he did not he committed. Forgive everyone. He waits for you outside every day and is probably in more pain than you. As usual, I was trying to ease your pain, I asked. I saw a small growth, I knew it was bad. In a follow-up tweet, he added: "I've been waiting for you, seeing you've been denied justice time and time again. The truth is so powerful, but take your evidence again and again. KALYUG. Sorry I can't. wait for you because it's an invasive stage 2 cancer. He's going under the knife today. No one can be blamed because it's GOD's plan: PERFECT."

Reacting to the tweet, Punjab Congress Chairman Amarinder Singh Raja Warring wrote: "I'm sorry you had to undergo surgery. Thankfully it was caught in time. I pray for your speedy recovery. Waheguru Mehar Karan."
Sidhu has been incarcerated in Patiala Central Jail since May 2022 after being convicted by the Supreme Court in a 34-year case.
The court sentenced Sidhu in May 2022, saying any undue sympathy for imposing an improper sentence would further damage the justice system and undermine public confidence in the effectiveness of the law.
A 65-year-old man, Gurnam Singh, died in the incident.
