Description
Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI and the ED. Le chef du parti Aam Aadmi (AAP), Manish Sisodia, sent him mercy à deux semanes de garde à vue by a Delhi court in the silver-whitening affair liée à la politique de vente d'alcool désormais abandonnée de the capital. Special judge MK Nagpal sent the former deputy chief minister to jail until 5 April after he was brought up by the Law Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the end of his custodial questioning in the 'affair'.
The anti-money laundering agency questioned Mr. Sisodia, stripped of his ministerial portfolios after his arrest, for seven days in police custody.
On Tuesday, the special court postponed the hearing on his bail application in the main alcohol sales policy case being considered by the CBI. The bail application will now be heard on Saturday.
On February 26, the CBI arrested Mr. Sisodia for alleged corruption in the drafting and implementation of the now-abandoned Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.
The Enforcement Directorate arrested Mr. Sisodia on 9 March at Tihar Prison, where he was held in connection with the case being considered by the CBI.
Asking for bail, the former minister told the Delhi court that his wife was ill and there was no one to care for her. Her lawyer said that her son is studying abroad, so it is his responsibility to take care of her.
The CBI opposed his release on bail, saying that he held such a high position in the government that he could easily not only hide, but even destroy, evidence related to the case.
Mr. Sisodia argued that he had cooperated with the CBI investigation into the Delhi excise policy case and that none of the searches had turned up any incriminating material against him. His lawyer said that his custodial questioning was no longer necessary and that he was not at risk of fleeing.
"I am an official, but two other officials, against whom the complaints are more serious, have not been arrested," said his lawyer, adding that there is no documentary evidence of bribery against him.
The CBI argued that while Mr. Sisodia is not a flight risk, he may influence witnesses and hamper the investigation if he is released.
Mr. Sisodia's lawyer also told the court that all the alleged crimes carry less than seven years in prison in the case and that no further imprisonment is warranted.
