More than 48% of Gen Zers, those born between the mid-late 1990s and early 2010s, rate toxic work culture as the leading cause of quiet quitting, while only 6% believe it is the result of long working hours. , according to a report, Quiet Quitting and its Effect on Organizational Work Structure, by Kolkata-based recruitment firm Genius Consultants.

In particular, it revealed that 23% of respondents blame office politics and excessive work pressure for the problem.

Silent quitting is a term used for employees who don't put in more effort at their job than is absolutely necessary.

According to the report, "Going out quietly" has given rise to a new trend: Minimum Mondays, in which employees, especially Gen Z, tend to put in minimal effort on the work front on the first day of the week.

The report, Quiet Quitting and its Effect on Organizational Work Structure, is based on an online survey of 1,928 employees across all industries.

It further revealed that over 54 per cent of India Inc are aware of the term 'Silent Quit' and 74 per cent of the respondents believe that the culture of silent quitting harms the work environment.

Currently, the workforce views their work as more than just a means to an end, namely a source of income, according to the report.

"Given the current situation, 'Quiet Quit Culture' and 'Naked Minimal Mondays' are interrelated and can have detrimental effects on organizations, and when combined with layoffs, can further exacerbate the problem. It is imperative that companies address this issue proactively to foster a culture of engagement, motivation and resilience in the face of adversity. We believe such surveys are essential for gathering insightful perspectives on current issues," said Genius Consultants CMD RP Yadav.

The report found that despite the trend of quiet resignations and layoffs, 43% of those surveyed believe the problem could be alleviated with better benefits.
