“The goal is to defeat the BJP,” Akhilesh Yadav said. (File) Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav said on Sunday that the BJP would be politically eliminated in the coming days, "as would the Congress", for "abusing" central agencies against opposition parties. Akhilesh Yadav also pushed for the caste census, which he said would be a major issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
"Before, the Congress used to abuse the central agencies, and now the BJP is doing the same. The Congress is over. The BJP will also meet a similar fate," he said during an interview at a press conference here.
He claimed that Congress under the UPA-2 regime had promised to conduct a caste census, but then "retracted". “We want the BJP-led central government to carry out the caste census. Several leaders have demanded it. But like the Congress, the saffron party is also unwilling to carry it out,” Yadav said.
When asked about the proposed opposition front formula ahead of the general election, Yadav said it would not be revealed.
"We will not reveal the formula of the opposition front, the goal is to defeat the BJP," he said.
