Mamata Banerjee has urged the High Court not to annul the teacher appointments. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that corrective action should be taken if "mistakes" are made in the recruitment process, but no one should be fired from the services as they have dependent families. Ms Banerjee's comment came as the Kolkata High Court terminated the services of thousands of people who had been illegally appointed as teaching and non-teaching staff in state-sponsored and assisted schools in West Bengal by manipulating the recruitment process. hiring.
"If I made a mistake, they can slap me and I won't care. I didn't hurt anyone, knowingly. After I came to power, I didn't eliminate the jobs of CPI(M) cadres, but why are you not having the ability to provide employment, but you are stealing people's livelihoods,” he said, apparently pointing to CPI(M) MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, a lawyer who has fought several of these cases in court.
Urging the court to reconsider its decisions to terminate services, CM Banerjee said reconsideration could also be considered for such people.
“I will ask you to think. Just yesterday two people committed suicide in Jalpaiguri. If someone else did something wrong, why should those people suffer? If someone suddenly loses their job, how will they take care of their family? Give this person, if necessary, another test, we are going to prepare another configuration according to the court order," he said.
Ms. Banerjee was visibly moved when she spoke on the issue while addressing Sri Aurobindo's 150th birthday celebrations at the Alipore Court of Judges campus.
"Not everyone is a TMC cadre. A government employee can be a supporter of any political party. If any of them have done something wrong, I will take action against them. I have no sympathy for him. But, we have to see that those who got the jobs are not victimized,” he said.
The ED and CBI have arrested former education minister Partha Chatterjee along with several top education officials and top TMC leaders as the two central agencies begin investigating allegations of illegal appointments made to public schools in exchange for crores for rupees.
Senior CPI(M) official Mr Bhattacharya said that instead of asking the court to reconsider its decision to terminate the services of undeserving candidates, Ms Banerjee should abdicate responsibility for the whole fiasco .
"Under the Left Front government, appointments were made according to established procedures. She does not have the power to cut a job," he said.
Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that Ms. Banerjee herself was involved in the wrongdoing.
"The statement proves the chief minister's involvement in the wrongdoing. Now she is trying to save face," said BJP leader Rahul Sinha.
