(File) In a shocking incident, a man is believed to have killed his 62-year-old father during a property dispute here in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday. According to the police, after the murder, the 30-year-old accused dismembered the victim's body to put it in a suitcase and dispose of it.

The incident took place in the Suraj Kund settlement, below the confines of the Tiwaripur police station, on Saturday night.

Police filed a complaint on Sunday after Prashant Gupta, the accused's brother, filed a complaint with the police.

The man was identified as Murli Dhar Gupta, father of the accused.

The defendant, identified as Santosh Kumar Gupta aka Prince, has been arrested, Police Superintendent (City) Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said.

He said the murder was the result of a property dispute in the family.

“Finding him alone in the house, the defendant attacked the victim with a hammer. The victim died instantly. Then he brought a suitcase from the brother's room and put the body parts in the suitcase and hid it in the street behind the house.” .

"By information from the defendant's brother, the police recovered the body parts and sent them for autopsy," the official added.

An additional investigation has been launched, an official added.
