(File) A pigeon fitted with devices, which appear to be a camera and a microchip, was captured from a fishing boat off the coast of Paradip in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, and police suspect the bird was used for spying. The fishermen found the pigeon perched on their trawler a few days ago. The bird was captured and handed over to the Paradip Marine Police on Wednesday.

"Our vets will examine the bird. We will request the assistance of the State Forensic Science Laboratory to examine the devices attached to its feet. It appears that the devices are a camera and a chip," Jagatsinghpur Police Superintendent Rahul PR said. .

It also appears that something was scrawled on the bird's wings in a language unknown to the local police.

"The help of experts will also be sought to find out what is written," the PS said.

Pitambar Behera, an employee of the trawler 'Sarathi', said he saw the pigeon sitting on the boat.

“Suddenly I noticed that some instruments were tied to the bird's legs. I also found out that something was written on its wings. I couldn't understand it because I wasn't in Odia,” Mr. Behera said.

He caught the bird as it approached.

The pigeon was found on the trawler while it was anchored about 35 km from Konark about 10 days ago.

Mr Behera said he had been feeding the bird broken rice for the past few days.
