A Canadian permanent resident who arrived in India in February earlier this year is believed to have been killed in a fight with Mohali residents, police officials said on Tuesday, adding that the accused had been identified as Niranjan Singh. The deceased was identified as Pradeep Singh (24), a resident of Gazikot village in Gurdaspur, Punjab. SSP Mohali said: "The late Pradeep Singh was wearing the Nihang dress code at the time of the incident. So far, he has not been found to be linked to any Nihang groups."

Authorities said they were reviewing all the viral videos of the incident.

“I call on people not to believe the rumors. Further investigations are underway," he said.

The police chief said he received reports around 10:30pm Tuesday that a boy named Pradeep Singh had been killed in a fight.

"A case has been registered and the accused has been identified as Niranjan Singh. The deceased is a permanent resident (PR) of Canada and had come to India in February," SSP Mohali said.

According to reports, the deceased had arrived in his town a few months ago and was the only child of his parents.

The relatives of the deceased alleged that Pradeep was killed by goons while on his way to Mohali.

“He saw some hooligans playing inappropriate songs in a car in full view of the public. He tried to reason with them. But they attacked him and he died instantly," relatives of the deceased actor said.

“Strict action must be taken against the perpetrators,” they demanded.
