Ms. Sundar was recently appointed as a member of the National Commission for Women. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and National Commission for Women member Khushbu Sundar said she was sexually abused by her father and she is not ashamed of the incident as she expresses it honestly. “I didn't make a surprising statement. I think it was an honesty that I did. I'm not ashamed of what I said because it happened to me and I think the abuser should be ashamed of what he did," she said. The BJP leader told ANI when asked about her claim that her father was sexually abused when she was eight years old.
Ms Sundar further said that with her disclosure she wanted the women to talk about what happened to them.
"I think I have to get the message across that you have to be strong and take control of yourself and not let anything get you down or think it's the end of the road. If it's taken me this many years to talk about it, I think the Women need to talk about it and tell them that this happened to me and that I will continue my journey no matter what," she added.
