The investigation of the case is ongoing. In a bizarre case of cyber fraud, a group of scammers allegedly obtained the PAN details of various Bollywood actors and cricketers from their GST identification numbers which are available online, and obtained credit cards issued to them. 'A card'. Some of the celebrities whose names and details were used by the scammers are Abhishek Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty, Madhuri Dixit, Emraan Hashmi and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shahadra Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rohit Meena said.

"As the investigation into the matter is ongoing, we are unable to comment further," Meena told PTI.

The company later found out about the fraud, but not before the scammers used some of these cards to buy Rs 21.32 lakh worth of goods. He immediately alerted the Delhi police, who intervened and arrested five of them.

The five defendants, identified as Puneet, Mohd Asif, Sunil Kumar, Pankaj Mishar and Vishwa Bhaskar Sharma, acted in close coordination to defraud the company in a highly unusual manner, Delhi police sources said.

"After their arrest, when questioned, they revealed their unique modus operandi. They used to get the GST details of these celebrities from Google. They were well aware that the first two digits of the GSTIN are the state code and the next 10 digits are number BREAD," said one of the sources.

The source added: "Since the birth date of celebrities is available on Google, these two, PAN and date of birth, fill in the details of the PAN. They fraudulently redid the PAN cards by putting their own photos on them so that , during video verification, his appearance matched the photo available on the PAN/Aadhaar card."

For example, Abhishek Bachchan's PAN card had his PAN and date of birth but a photo of one of the defendants.

They falsified their Aadhaar details in the same way. After obtaining this information, they applied for credit cards. During the video verification, they were asked questions related to their financial activities which they answered easily because they had obtained all these details from CIBIL.

The source said that he knew that these celebrities could have good CIBIL scores, which would increase their chances of getting credit cards.

"Also, they knew that the online verification system could not identify Abhishek Bachchan as a movie star. So the photo of defendant Pankaj Mishra with Abhishek Bachchan's PAN and Aadhaar details worked well to get a card," he added. .

Further investigation is underway and it is suspected that they may have used a similar modus operandi to obtain credit cards from other banks and financial institutions.

Law enforcement sources also said they had researched online for several months to find ways to use loopholes in online verification and credit card issuance.

Pune-based FPL Technologies Private Limited issues "One Card," which is a contactless metallic credit card, as well as a virtual interpretation of it in the One Card and One Score app "so that the customer can use it to any online activity. request or on the basis of transactions or purchases," the company said in its complaint to police.

The company further alleged that these scammers approached the company via its app uploading details like PAN and Aadhaar number to obtain credit cards issued in their name.

The credit limit of the card was approved after "taking into account the details of the bureau, that is, the customer information stored with the credit reporting companies, for example, CIBIL, to establish the authenticity and authenticity of the claimant and their identifying information," the complaint reads.

He added: "They left the original PAN and Aadhaar number and date of birth intact and uploaded the fake PAN/Aadhaar card to our app. As a result, our system retrieved the office details based on the original PAN and suggested a limit of credit. ."

The company's complaint said that by abusing the same, "the defendant boarded with us by uploading his real-time selfie that matched the photo on the fake PAN card/Aadhaar card. As a result, credit cards were issued to the defendants with an approved card". credit limit of Rs 10 lakhs each".

“The approved credit limit was depleted/withdrawn by the defendant within a week and nothing was refunded to us,” the FIR said.

He added: “We became aware of this fraud when our system received an alert that multiple boarding attempts were being made using a single device. In short, the defendant attempted to board with us using a total of 83 PAN details from seven aircraft."

The company also delivered physical credit cards to the addresses mentioned in some of the documents.
