There was no immediate comment from India's permanent mission in Geneva. The UN human rights office said on Thursday that all comments made by representatives of the so-called "United States of Kailasa (USK)", founded by Indian fugitive Nithyananda, during their public meetings in Geneva last week were "irrelevant." "and they will not be considered. in draft final results. Confirming the participation of the so-called "USK representatives" in two of its public meetings - whose registration was open to all - the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) nevertheless declared that it had prevented the distribution of promotional material and its "tangential" speech was not taken into consideration.

The OHCHR spokesperson's comments came even as videos and images showing a USK representative speaking on behalf of the fictional state about "indigenous rights and sustainable development" during an event have gone viral on social media. Both events took place on February 22 and 24.

"Registration for such public events is open to NGOs and the general public. Anyone can submit information to the treaty bodies, who will use their judgment to determine the credibility of submissions received," the OHCHR spokesperson said when He asked her about her participation.

“On February 24, during the general discussion of the ESC Committee, when the floor was opened to the public, a representative of the USK spoke briefly. As the subject of the statement was tangential to the subject matter, it will not be taken into account. consideration by the Committee in the formulation of the General Observation”, added the spokesperson.

However, India's former permanent representative to the UN, TS Tirumurti, described it as a "total abuse" of UN procedures.

"It is a complete abuse of UN procedures to see representatives of a fugitive-led organization approaching the UN as an NGO or otherwise. India has consistently called for a process to ensure only credible NGOs are accredited. However, this call has not been heard," he said.

“As NGOs continue to voice their opinion on a variety of global issues, we must uphold the integrity of the UN, which is an organization run by member states,” the former diplomat added.

Vijayapriya Nithyananda, who claimed to be Kailasa's (alleged) permanent US ambassador, can be seen speaking in videos of the event and raised questions about the group's participation in sessions led by the likes of former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. and other human rights experts.

Nithyananda, a self-proclaimed god-man, is wanted in India on various charges of rape and sexual assault, charges he denies. It claims to have founded the "United States of Kailasa (USK)" in 2019 and, according to its website, has "two billion practicing Hindus" among its population.
