Description

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia, who headed as many as 18 departments, and Health Minister Jain resigned last night. The resignations came hours after the Supreme Court refused to relieve Sisodia and asked him to challenge his arrest in the liquor policy case at the Delhi High Court. The BJP had questioned why the two ministers continued to hold cabinet posts despite being arrested on corruption charges. The AAP stressed yesterday that the resignations were not an admission of guilt, calling it an "administrative step."

At the moment, the departments managed by MM. Sisodia and Jain are torn among their five cabinet colleagues.

Sisodia, who was arrested on Sunday on corruption charges in the liquor policy case, said he could be jailed for "7 to 8 months."

“I resign until the charges against me are proven false,” he wrote in his resignation.

"There will probably be other cases against me... God knows these accusations are false," he said, noting that he was accused of corruption despite having worked honestly for eight years.
