Description
High temperatures in parts of India have driven demand for power to near-record levels in recent weeks, raising concerns about a further cut in power supply over the summer.
Peak electricity demand hit 211 gigawatts in January, near a record last summer as heavy industry roared after pandemic restrictions and the population faced sweltering conditions that shattered a 122-year heat record. Temperatures have been up to 11C above normal in some parts over the past week and prompted the India Meteorological Department to advise farmers to check wheat and other crops for signs of heat stress.
