Brinda Karat, a member of the CPI(M) political bureau, made the remarks during a rally in Tripura.
The CPI(M) lashed out at the BJP's slogan "Amrit kaal" (golden age) on Thursday, saying the right-wing party's rule should be described as "Zeher kaal" (poison age). The left-wing party, which is fighting a hard-fought battle in the northeastern state with the BJP, has also alleged that its rival has launched an attack on the country's constitution as well as trying to use religion as a tool for political gain.
