Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, who was shot dead by a policeman, will receive a state honor

The 60-year-old minister was shot dead in the city of Brajrajnagar by Deputy Sub-Inspector of Police The Odisha government said late Sunday that the state honor would be given to Naba Kishore Das, the health and family welfare minister who died in hospital hours after she was shot dead by a police officer. A government statement said there would be no official entertainment for three days from January 29 to 31 across the state.

"The Odisha government decided that as a mark of respect, the honor of state will be bestowed on the deceased dignitary. The national flag will fly at half-mast on the day of death in the state capital and on the day of the funeral at the place where the carried out", read an official statement.

The 60-year-old minister was shot dead in the city of Brajrajnagar around 1pm by Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das, who is believed to be mentally ill.

A team of doctors from the Apollo Hospital operated on him after he was flown from Jharsugada to Bhubaneshwar, but he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
