"Any opposition platform to defeat the BJP must be based on two realities," Jairam Ramesh said. (Folders) Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on Saturday that no opposition alliance is relevant without Congress, as the party is the lynchpin of any opposition alliance to defeat the BJP in Lok Sabha polls. “Any opposition platform to defeat the BJP must be based on two realities. First, Congress must be the fulcrum of any opposition alliance. Without Congress, no opposition alliance is relevant or significant,” he declared.

“Secondly, any opposition alliance must be based on a constructive program, not just a negative program of anti-BJPism or anti-governmentalism. It must be based on a positive and constructive program. Now we will start the process of discussion with different political parties.” added.

Speaking at the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' in Pulwama, Mr. Ramesh said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir seek a peaceful and democratic life.

Speaking to ANI, Mr. Ramesh said: “A lot of hope for a peaceful and democratic life is visible in the hearts of the Kashmiri people, they want elections to be held and also their demands are met.

Congress Chairman Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the incident of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's "security breach" on 27 January and sought his personal intervention to ensure security proper at Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kharge's letter comes after Congress called off the day's march, which the party said it did so on the advice of Rahul Gandhi's security officials.

"We expect a big gathering to join the yatra over the next two days, as well as the ceremony to be held on January 30 in Srinagar. Many Congress leaders and leaders of other major political parties will attend the ceremonies that will culminate with the events that will take place. on January 30,” Kharge said in his letter.

"I would be grateful if you would personally intervene in this matter and advise the relevant officials to ensure proper security until the climax of the yatra and the ceremony on January 30 in Srinagar," the congress speaker said in a statement in his letter to the shah.

He also welcomed the statement from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who said they would continue to provide full security up to the highest point of the yatra.

Rahul Gandhi, at a press conference on Friday, said that the security apparatus had "completely collapsed" during the Yatra on Friday morning.

"This morning during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, unfortunately the police arrangement completely collapsed and the policemen who were supposed to manage the crowd were nowhere to be found. My security guards were very uncomfortable with the fact that I walked more in the yatra, so I had to cancel my trek, other yatris did the trek," Rahul Gandhi said at a press conference.

Speaking further on security issues, Gandhi said: "I think it is important that the police manage the crowd so that we can do the yatra. It is very difficult for me to go against what my security guards recommend."
