Bhattacharjee said the list was finalized after a meeting of the BJP Central Election Committee and the Parliamentary Committee. The BJP candidates are made up of representatives from various committees, including castes, tribes, OBCs, minorities and women, he said.

Chief Minister of State Manik Saha was nominated as the BJP candidate from the city of Bordowali. Ms Bhoumik is a union minister in the BJP-led government at the Center. She is an MP for Tripura.

The BJP first came to power in the state in 2018 after defeating the CPI(M), which ruled the state for 25 straight years.

BJP top brass were in talks with TIPRA, a regional party founded by former Congress leader and royal scion Pradyot Deb Barman, for a pre-election alliance, which has now been scrapped.

However, Mr. Bhattacharjee stated that talks were still ongoing with alliance partner IPFT.

On CPI(M) MP Moboshar Ali and former Trinamool State Chairman Subal Bhowmik, who joined the BJP, he said that they saw that the people of the state could not accept the Congress-CPI(M) alliance, and that many others are in contact with the BJP. .

The CPI(M) disputes this time the national elections in alliance with the Congress.
