All were taken to a hospital, where 35 were released after treatment, while one was kept for observation, he said.

The incident occurred at Wanlesswadi Secondary School after children in classes V and VII prepared rice and dal in a central kitchen run by a self-help group, it said.

"After having lunch, 36 students complained of stomach pains and nausea, and many of them vomited. One boy is still hospitalized with stomach pains. He was given a saline solution and his condition is stable," said Mohan Gaikwad, director of Education. (primary section) said.

"Samples of food from the school and the central kitchen have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter," Gaikwad added.
